Fan Art!

Sorry, no new comic today – like I’ve said, the comic’s going on a bit of a relaxed update schedule while I work on developing the next big story arc/address about a hundred other things that are going on for me right now.

Never fear! Even though I don’t have any time to draw Badnix, apparently some other people do. Introducing: FANART!

Max Cart has stumbled upon the innovative notion of drawing my characters as though they were featured in the television program My Little Pony. Awesome!

Dafydd Francis and his “poison pen” contribute this scathing parody!

Last but not least, I have the distinct pleasure of showcasing a piece by MS Paint visionary Sydney Ray. Do not be alarmed if its lifelike gaze follows you about the room – and prepare to marvel at its “famous smile”! Prints will no doubt fetch a high price on the collector’s market.

More comics coming soon! Until then – send me better more fanart!

100 Comics!

…and the first real Badnix story arc comes to a close! We’ve successfully reached the end of ‘World One’.

We’ve come a long way, haven’t we? Rog has gone from a bored, insignificant grunt to a Mini-Boss in charge of a new human-hunting initiative. With that convoluted stage finally set, I’m hoping we can move on to faster-paced, funnier adventures inside this world of misbegotten video game tropes.

That said, I’m going to need to recharge my batteries a bit after that last behemoth storyline. As such, the next 2-3 weeks are going to be a bit less plot-heavy, and the update schedule might get a bit looser.

Never despair, super-players! As today’s strip implies, the new, improved Badnix is just getting warmed up.

‘Til next Monday,

Slayin’

I hope I’m not wrong in assuming that some of the people reading this comic enjoy playing games? I don’t know, it’s just a hunch on my part. Anyway, I think I’m a few months late to the party, but Slayin has been helping me to waste time with greater efficiency than ever before!

It’s an RPG-themed arcade-style beat-em-up game, with a catchy 8-bit soundtrack and beautiful pixel-based graphics. Fundamentally, it’s a pretty simple, pure experience, but there’s a fair bit of strategy, too – the three playable characters all have completely different play styles, and the way you budget your item purchases is vital to getting anywhere in the game (hint: if you’re playing as the Knight, get the sword that makes you faster and NEVER BUY ANOTHER SWORD AGAIN).

If you have a few minutes, check it out! Or if you don’t have a few minutes. YOU WILL FIND TIME TO PLAY THIS GAME REGARDLESS.

Thrill Digger!

If you’ve played The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword (and if you haven’t, please do), you may remember a certain mini-game called Thrill Digger. You dig up holes, looking for Rupees and avoiding bombs; the color of the Rupees you dig up help you figure out how many bombs are nearby. It’s sort of like Minesweeper, with a little luck and memorization mixed in. I really liked the game, but I really disliked farming for money to play it, and I wished there was just a little less luck involved.

So, for kicks, I created the Thrill Digger Simulator! It’s an accurate (as far as I can tell) browser-based recreation of the mini-game, with no first-turn deaths, the inclusion of items you can buy to help improve your performance, and a slew of other cool features. Enjoy! (Unless you use Internet Explorer. In that case, download a better web browser, and then enjoy!)

In other news – the strip sure has gone to a dark place, huh? Well, you know what they say: it’s always darkest just before it keeps getting forever and the comic turns into Funky Winkerbean! They… they do say that, right?
